Birmingham

On Monday morning (07/06/2021) we continued on our way into the heart of Birmingham. There were no locks today but we had to stop and open the weed hatch to dislodge a long branch, the thickness of an arm, which wedged in our propellor as we passed under the M5. The graffiti increased and tall buildings appeared on the horizon.

We passed toll islands, a small tunnel and various side canals and loops.

It is said that a city is doing well when there are cranes at work.

We moored for lunch by Birmingham Arena and walked to the C&RT Services at the beginning of the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal.

This seemed to be a pretty little side canal which you wouldn’t think was in the heart of such a big city.

There was a roundabout at the junction of several canals in the city centre at Old Turn Junction.

We chugged passed Legoland, Sea World, the ICC and Sommar Brewery.

And we passed under Black Sabbath Bridge and Gas Street Basin.

We turned right at the Mailbox and the impressive Cube building and queued for water at the C&RT Services by bridge 88, before mooring up here.

This is the same area where we were moored on St. Patrick’s Day 2021. We started watching Rake Series 5 on Netflix.

It was warm enough to sit on the stern and watch the walkers, runners and cyclists go by on the tow path.
