British Summer Time

Updated: May 13, 2021

This morning we awoke to a wet gloomy morning on the canal at Market Drayton. Last night the clocks sprang forward 1 hour and British Summer Time has begun.

Yesterday, Saturday 27th March 2021 we had bacon and egg for breakfast and while Hilary read The Telegraph to catch up on world news, Vera and Steve went on an exploratory walk. Walking from the canal along the wide grass verge beside the busy A52 we found the ALDI and the Morrisons superstore. We walked back through the town to The Duke. Graham Norton was warbling from Virgin Radio on my Amazon Kindle Fire RadioPlayer App.

After lunch (soup from a tin like the old days!) we went for a walk along the canal passing narrowboats that people have been living on throughout the lockdown so far. The fields alongside the canal are school and sports club playing fields sporting No Dogs signs.

A sign by the bridge said that we were lucky to be close to a Joules Pub offering real ale, real fires and dog friendliness. Sadly not during coronavirus lockdown. https://www.joulesbrewery.co.uk/our-taphouses/our-pub-list

We walked down to ASDA and Steve got some Merrydown Original cider and Hilary got wine to stock our new wine cellar in the cratch (area at the front or bow of a narrowboat, generally with a cover over it making a small triangular metal room).

We watched Gogglebox from yesterday on All4. Mary and Marina live in the retirement complex that Hilary’s Dad lived in in Bristol, but they are in a high risk coronavirus group and are not appearing in the current series.

In the evening it was Ant & Dec on ITVhub and then Casualty on BBC iPlayer before dog walking and an early night in anticipation of losing an hour overnight.
