On Sunday 6th June 2021 we left our mooring at Deepfields footbridge in Coseley. We felt comfortable here, despite a volunteer litter-picker on our morning dog walk along the tow path advised us not to moor here due to the not-very-nice people about.

We set off at 11:00 after listening to The Archers on BBC Radio 4 and chugged through Coseley Tunnel.

We went through the 3 Factory Locks at the start of the New Main Line Canal and made our way through industrial Birmingham. There were a lot of fishermen taking part in a competition. With such long rods you may ask why they don’t just fish on the other side with a short rod? None of them seemed to have had much success yet. The odd heron looked on and we passed quite a few baby coots.

The canal was very wide for most of the way but there were some narrow points over aqueducts, bridges with 2 arches and toll islands.

We stopped where we had moored on 19/03/2021 just passed Bromford Bridge.

We watched Have I Got News For You and Celebrity Gogglebox on catch-up.

As usual there was lots of graffiti on every wall and bridge.

Vera found Jesus at Bromford Bridge. John 2:16 says “To those who sold doves he said, "Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father's house into a market!"

Steve and Vera visited the nearby pub and Vera made lots of new friends in the beer garden (picnic tables on astroturf). The Railway Inn was opposite Sandwell & Dudley railway station.

There was a nice sunset at the end of our day at Bromford Bridge.

The canal was like a mirror.
