It was sub-zero but sunny when we wandered easterly along the the towpath.

Alrewas is a quaint little village with some historic buildings, locks and canal bridges.

We were moored up not far from the church.

Kevin came to pick us up and take us to Lichfield where Vera met Oscar, their dog. Kevin and Kaz did our laundry and took us on a fascinating tour of the city, which we knew very little about.

There are some ancient buildings and a lot of history in Lichfield based around the cathedral.

And some old houses around Erasmus Darwin’s (Charles grandad) wife’s herb garden.

Buildings dating back to the 1500’s.

The centre of the city is like a film set for an historical drama.

But not everybody had such a great experience here in the past.

There were several more of these plaques testifying to grisly endings. We had a nice lunch and got sunburned at the European-style cafe-bar 55 Ware Street (http://www.55wadestreet.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/NEW-BURGER-MENU-FACEBOOK.pdf) where I had the lovely Kkangpae burger.

Back at Alrewas we passed more historic buildings on the way to the Co-operative Store.

A long established butcher’s shop.

And one of the pubs.
