Lock Gate Garden Gates

On a gloriously sunny May Bank Holiday Monday we wended a leisurely way northwards along the Stour Valley to Kinver.

We passed through Whittington Lock and reached Kinver Lock which had bent lock arms due to the building of a road bridge after the lock had been long established.

The Vine pub seemed to be doing a roaring trade as we came through Kinver Lock.

At last I could abandon my trusty gardening shoes in favour of normal footwear, as the sun was drying up the tow path and had dried the slippery surfaces on the boat deck.

At the next lock, Hyde Lock, there was a pretty lock cottage.

The lock cottage had a brilliant lock gate garden gate.

We moored up just passed Hyde Lock and did a family walk to the Co-op in Kinver where there were some impressive old buildings which had been preserved. Hilary had the shopping trolley and I had a back pack as it was a half hour walk each way.

We are not too far from the Canal & River Trust Boater’s Facilities at Kinver Moorings, where some decrepit looking narrowboats looked like their electrical hookup was powering a boat life support system to stop them from sinking.
