Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal

We did a reconnaissance by foot and decided that we would delay progress onto the Trent & Mersey Canal due to the freezing cold weather and weather forecast of worse to come.

We did a family walk to Kings Lock and Wardle Bridge at the T-junction.

We then trudged into town with shopping trolley, tote bag, backpack and bottle bag to do some shopping at LIDL via Tesco Express. Hilary decided to skip Jack’s even though they had Isla Negra Merlot at a suspiciously cheap £4.25 a bottle.

Middlewich has some historic old buildings, many renovated with modern purposes, and some great looking old pubs which are sadly closed at the current time.
