We chugged out of Nantwich yesterday (06/04/2021) and through 3 locks with snow flurries around us. We decided not to turn onto the Llangollen Canal at Hurleston Junction as the Welsh were turning back narrowboats at Chirk due to COVID-19 restrictions. We turned right at Barbridge Junction onto the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal.
The route followed the Weaver Way along high embankments exposed to the biting winds from the west.
We stopped for soup and to warm up at bridge 14.
We carried on through Stanthorne Lock and into Middlewich where many gardens backed onto the canal.
We went shopping at Jack’s (subsidiary of Tesco) in the snow and then settled in front of our diesel stove (which Hilary calls the Dragon) for the evening.
