After a family walk to the One Stop Shop in Chellaston we set off at 11:00 hrs. through the huge Swarkestone Lock, dropping us down 10 ft. 11 inches. This was repeated in Weston Lock.

We chugged passed baby ducklings, swans, Canadian geese, magpies, cattle and lambs through an agricultural landscape.

We found a place to moor up in the middle of nowhere, 2 miles from Shardlow and near a village called Aston on Trent.

The only noise was the distant sound of racing motorbikes from Castle Donington.

Vera and Steve walked up to investigate Aston Lock in preparation for tomorrow.

The sun was strong so we made use of it to charge our solar power devices.

We read books and newspapers in the sun and to preserve the peace Steve used earphones to listen to music ("do we have to have this row?") on his AGPTEK MP3 and FM Radio Player.

Argentinian Malbec revived memories of our trip to South America in 2019. The solar panels perched on top of the boat are on our work light/torches. There are also 2 fixed solar panels on top of The Duke to help charge the leisure batteries.

It seemed like a summer day after a very cold frosty start this morning.

Vera checked out the tow path and approved.

We had a visit from a swan in the evening.
