Today Vera and Steve walked up to Long Eaton Lock to check it out. Vera was impressed by the number of mini pork pies and chocolate marshmallow cakes discarded along the tow path.

We had to go through 3 locks today to reach a turning point so that we could turnaround and come back through the same 3 locks. We passed moorhen nests, herons and swans and the Long Eaton 15th Sea Scouts and Guide headquarters which set off their automated alarm so that a voice shouted at us from a loudspeaker “You should not be here. Leave this area immediately!”
More fancy houseboats and lots of garden moorings along the cut.

This houseboat looked very plush, with seating on the roof in good weather.

We moored up after bridge 2 close to the Trent Lock Canal & River Trust facilities, which were pretty basic.

After soup for lunch we watched “The Syndicate” on BBC iPlayer on catchup and then thought that we would give the local pubs some much needed business.

After giving the Trent Lock Vintage Inn a try and after being allocated a table we waited for nearly half an hour with no service before moving on to the Steamboat Inn where a Dalek was guarding the toilets against COVID-19 incursion.

Unable to stay at the happy place we were sat at a table outside to be told that red wine and coffee were not available. Steve had Orchard Pig cider while Hilary had to make do with ginger beer - which wasn't actually the ginger beer offered, rather a ginger ale mixer, we won't be rushing back.

We helped a chap who had just bought a narrowboat to get through the Trent Lock and out onto the River Trent.

The Steamboat Inn was doing a roaring trade in chip cobs (chip butties).
